During the Cold War, the launch of Sputnik spurred the United States to create ARPA: The Advanced Research Projects Agency. On January 1st 1983, all hosts on the ARPANET switched over from the old NCP protocols to TCP/IP; thus creating the first TCP/IP-wide area network. A small switch for man, but a giant leap for porn.
